See with your ears

Have you ever stopped, closed your eyes and listened to the sounds of the life, the world around you? Do you only hear what is there and what you can see? So many take for granted the power of sight that we do not use our power to hear. We often listen to everything around us but we do not hear them. Close your eyes (finish reading the post first) and listen, what do you hear? Listen to the rain tapping against the window, the wind whistling though the leaves, the birds talking with one another. We hear all of these things but not the way we should. A blind persons sense of hearing is so much greater than a person who can see. They have to use their sense of hearing to compensate for their loss of sight. They appreciate what they hear because they can not see it. Imagine sitting in a field as the sun goes down, the warm red, orange and yellow sky as the sun slowly disapprears below the horizon, it is a beautiful sight. Now close your eyes and picture the same sunset but listen to what is around you, it make the sunset all that more beautiful doesn't it.
We all take so much for granted in our lives, stop and smell the roses, stop and listen to life and the world around you, you never know when you might not be able to hear it anymore.

So often we cannot see what is right in front of us..and it has nothing to do with being blind. I think we all need to start listening so that we see the important things in life.

Amen! Great post, truly. I make sure I take even just a few minutes each day and just listen. I am lucky to live where I do, as there is ALOT to listen to - from birds to bugs, to the leaves rustling as a snake slithers through - to the raindrops on the windows and the crickets and peeperse at night. Ahhh ... it's all pretty soothing. I try to do this with people too though, as all to often what we 'see' isn't necessarily the whole story. In fact, it most frequently isn't.

I like sometimes when I sit in my place and turn off the TV or music or whatever I have on, and just hear and feel without distractions.

Thanks Wendy, and you are right a lot of times what we see is not necessarily what is really there.

Cat, that is a great thing to do. It gives you time to think and gather your thoughts for the day.
And I bet you hear a lot if purring coming from those babies of yours.

Can never hear this enough. Gratitude can relieve so much stress and worry.
